Where do you train? What are your hours? "Anywhere, Anytime" is the quick answer for locations: We specialize in bringing the entire course to your work or club space, but we can help you find class space too. We can help you combine classes with other businesses or clubs to save money, too - hit the top-right menu to contact us and find out more! Our hours are flexible - if you need a course spread out over two or more days, we can easily work that out. Daytimes, evenings, weekends - we've even taught midnight courses!
What kind of course do I need if I am running a business? - WSIB says that if you're running a business with more than 5 people on shift, the government doesn't give you a choice - you have to provide a Standard First Aid course. - If you have less than five staff on at any time, you can do the Emergency First Aid course...but WE STRONGLY RECOMMEND THE STANDARD FIRST AID COURSE TO ALL. It's just more detailed and inspires more confidence.
"Hey, wait - I can't find you on the W.S.I.B. page!" Aha! Good eye. That's because we're listed under "Emergmart Response Systems, Inc., Code Eight EMS Division." Nice catch, and we commend you on your diligence!
How long does training take? There's an online portion which takes 4-6 hours; that's got to be completed on the student's own time. Once that's done, the in-person training then takes either one day or two, depending on the course. (If you have more than five employees on shift at any one time, W.S.I.B. forces you to take the two-day course)
How long do certifications last? Who gives the certifications? What happens if a student loses a card? All our certifications last for three years, though we really do recommend refresher training every year, two maximum. Our certifying agency is listed on the WSIB website as Emergmart Response Systems, and all certification cards bear their numbering system for easy authentication - and replacement if a student loses their card. We also keep a digital copy of that card - a literal scan - on file so that we can e-mail you a replacement while you wait for the physical copy to arrive.
Can we do online-only training? What about recertifying? In Ontario, there is no W.S.I.B.-approved online-only first aid course. Let us be clear - if you've been offered online-only training, a) that training just isn't good enough to teach your crew what they need to know and b) it's not legal training anyways! When it comes to recertification, W.S.I.B. allows a one-time recertification which takes one in-class day. After that, everyone's got to take the full class again - but that can be up to six years away.
Are there prerequisites? Do we have to pass a test? Yep! There's an online portion which ALL students must take before coming to class. No choice, all the modules MUST be fully completed and passed with a minimum of 70%. In class, we get to evaluate students face-to-face, and our policy is that "no one fails"; if a student's not grasping the concepts, we'll stay with you until you do. We get it - everyone learns in different ways, but the tests aren't hard - and that's how you and your staff will have the confidence to know you can perform when someone's life is on the line.
